Things to do in Charleston, SC in April
Every month is a perfect month to visit Charleston because there is always something great going on. Charleston is home to monthly festivals, historical celebrations, beautiful experiences and fun activities for families. I’ve shared a few of my top picks for April in Charleston below!
April 1-7 in Charleston, SC
- Credit One Women’s Charleston Open (March 30-April 7): Enjoy watching the best in women’s tennis compete during this weeklong competition at Credit One Stadium. There are matches and events throughout the week, including a Har-Tru Play On After Dark glow experience. Tickets are available for purchase by event.
- Charleston Festival: Art in the Garden (April 3, 5:30-7:30 PM): Every Spring the Historic Charleston Foundation celebrates the beauty of the city’s history, homes, and culture through a variety of tours and events. The Festival runs from March 14-April 14 this year and has a variety of events to check out. For example, on April 3rd, enjoy Art in the Garden with Christine Lashley, hosted by The Principle Gallery in the garden of the Nathaniel Russell House Museum. Tickets are $55.
- Flowertown Festival in Summerville (April 5-7, 9 AM -7 PM): Support the YMCA and enjoy the beautiful flowers of lowcountry at the annual festival!
- Lowcountry Strawberry Festival (April 5-7 & 11-14, 10 AM- 8 PM): The annual Festival is back at Boone Hall this year for two weekends in April. There is live music, farm activities, games, rides, and festival food for purchase. Tickets for entry are $15 for admission ages 3 & up, 2 and under are free; food and beverages purchased on site.
- Charleston Riverdogs (April 5-7): The Riverdogs are back in action for weekend games and are celebrating their 30th anniversary on April 5th!
- Cooper River Bridge Run (April 6, 8 AM): Join the community in running in the annual bridge run and participate in post race festivities, or cheer your friends on! I participate in this annually and enjoy the experience of running over one of our famous landmarks and spending the rest of the day in Charleston. Registration is $65-70.
April 8-14 in Charleston, SC
- Lowcountry Cajun Festival (April 13, 12-6 PM): Hosted at James Island Country Park, this festival brings Louisiana cajun and creole foods and music to Charleston, and features kids activities and kids food as well. Tickets are $35 per car for entry, food and beverages are purchased on site.
- Kidchella (April 14, 2-4 PM): Hosted at Freedom Park on Daniel Island, this event is created all for the kids. There will be live performances , a DJ, and food trucks all focused on kids!
April 15-21 in Charleston, SC
- Charleston Riverdogs (April 16-21): The Riverdogs are home this week in April! Wednesday is Bobblehead night, Friday has fireworks, Saturday is boy band night, and Sunday is MUSC Health Family Sunday. Pick your fancy!
- Charleston Jazz Festival (April 18-21): Celebrate Charleston’s history of Jazz with multiple nights of music. Tickets are available for purchase for each event over the three-day celebration weekend.
- Monster Jam (April 19-21): Enjoy the ride with the family at the North Charleston Coliseum and experience a Monster truck show as expert drivers take on the dirt!
- Charleston Air Show (April 20-21, 12-4 PM): One of my favorite events in April is the Air Show held at Joint Base Charleston. It’s a great event to explore different types of aircrafts and get an up close experience of aircrafts in flight! It is free to attend, but you need to reserve a parking pass to get in. Once inside there is food, beverages, and souvenirs for purchase.
April 22-28 in Charleston, SC
- Charleston Cocktail Week (April 22-28): Enjoy cocktails from venues like Gingerline, Felix, Indaco, Zero, Lamar’s, Eleve and more as Charleston showcases the best in mixologists and cocktails in the area. Tickets for entry throughout the week are available for purchase, drinks sold separately.
- Mount Pleasant Cheers on the Pier (Thursday, April 25, 5:30-7:40 PM): Enjoy live music and craft beer on the pier in Mount Pleasant. Food, craft beer and desserts will be available at the River Watch Cafe and Gift Shop.
- Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival (April 28, 11 AM-5PM): Support Mount Pleasants shrimping and fishing industries by watching a boat parade, enjoying local eats and participate in fun family activities at the Charleston Harbor. Event is free with food and drinks for purchase.
