This year was the year of traveling with two young kiddos and trying to navigate all the necessities for trains, planes, automobiles, and vacation rentals. We definitely went through quite a few ‘I wish we had…’ moments and are still learning on the most efficient way enjoy our vacations! I’ve included a list of some essentials for traveling with toddlers based on our learns this year, all available on Amazon.*
Getting to Your Destination
- Portable Potty Seat: This seat has been a savior for airports, restaurants, and pit stops while training my toddler. She thought it was really fun, and it folds up to fit easily in your diaper bag without taking up too much space.
- Car Seat Travel Bag: This bag is great quality and fairs the bumps and bruises of getting checked at the airport.
- Food Storage: My kids love the stackable food storage and it’s a great way to keep your food fresh until they are ready for their next option!
- Portable Seat/High Chair: While my 1-year old uses the chair more for sitting, I bring it with me to places that may not have high chairs.
- Washable Bibs: The Bumkins bibs have been my favorite for both my girls because they are easy to clean and I can fold them up easily in the diaper bag.
- Travel Water Bottle: After using various insulated stainless steel water bottles, I found that this bottle has one of the most controlled spouts, so even a 1-year old can use.
- Electronics Organizer: We always have so many tech items cords for our phones, monitors, sound machines, tables, etc. This organizer has been extremely helpful to travel with our monitors and sound machines safely.
- Portable Power Bank: Ensure your phones and tables are fully charged with a portable charger. Note that there are some regulations on how large these can be for flights.
Keeping Toddlers Busy
- Fun Blanket: My toddler is in love with her mermaid tail blanket. It’s lightweight, easy to pack, and makes her feel extra special on flights or road trips.
- Drawing Tablet: This LCD tablet is great and doesn’t require a million crayons or markers! It also stores easily in your diaper bag or your toddler’s backpack.
- Magic Ink Books: Another way to minimize the number of utensils is with mess free markers and coloring books.
- Busy Board: Toddlers of any age can practice button and zipping skills.
- Make a Face Sticker Pad: These make a face sticker pads have been a hit with my older daughter recently.
- Table/Tray Liners: Perfect for the plane and any restaurant stops along the way to your destination, your kiddos will stay entertained and avoid extra germs!
Getting a Good Nights Sleep on Vacation
- Hatch Sound Machine: I’ve become accustomed to the constant buzz of our Hatch sound machines at home and we absolutely love the Hatch Rest Mini. You can add it to your Hatch app to align the sounds and timing to your standard experience at home.
- Flexible Monitor Holder: This is one of my favorite purchases for my nursery but I have found it useful for travel too, especially when you want a good view of your kiddos through the monitor if they are in another room.
- Inflatable Travel Bed: If you are sharing a space, an inflatable travel toddler bed is a great option, and it fits well in larger suitcases.
- Pack N’ Play Mattress: If you have a Pack N’ Play, investing in a mattress makes sleeping while traveling much more comfortable!
Most of these finds are just what I’ve uncovered this past summer and I would love to hear about any other great finds that have made travel just a bit easier with the kiddos.
